Thank-you to all members who have expressed interest in volunteering for the SHC Casino fundraiser. Due to overwhelming response we have quickly filled all volunteer positions. Email response to ways and means and direct replies to admin were consolidated, and the shifts were filled in the order of response receipt. If you have received shift confirmation from Susan with ways and means please watch your inbox for further information regarding the event and your position requirements. All other interested members have been placed on a wait list in the event of a cancellation.
Thank you for you for your time and commitment to the Sturgeon Hockey Club!

Mark your calendars! The Sturgeon Hockey Club has been granted a casino fundraiser for Wednesday, May 7th and Thursday, May 8th at the Apex Casino in St. Albert. Volunteers that sign up and complete shifts will earn vouchers towards fall hockey registration. A short shift (3.25h) will earn you a $50 voucher, and a long shift (7.5-8h) will earn you a $100 voucher. A maximum of one shift per person per day may be worked. Tasks vary, and certain responsibilities have already been assigned to expedite initial paperwork. The shifts we must fill are the same for both days:
If you are interested in volunteering or if you have further questions, please contact the Ways and Means department. Shift availability is on a first come, first served basis.
Note: upon application, the AGLC issues casino licences to qualifying non-profit organizations every 2 years. Boundaries are predetermined and there is no choice as to which casino we fundraise at. Funds are pooled quarterly from all events held at each casino and are split between each organization that participated during that time period (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sept, Oct-Dec). This means that a group that works a Friday-Saturday event in June will pocket the same amount as a group working a Wednesday-Thursday event in May. We have the opportunity to raise approximately $25k during the 2-day event, with a delay in deposit of approximately 8 weeks following the end of the quarter.
